On December 21, 2019, the “2019 Shanxi Higher-Education Seminar on the Reform and Innovation of Foreign Language Education and Talent Training” was held in the lecture hall on the second floor of the Science Building on the Yingxi Campus of TYUT. The seminar was co-hosted by the Shanxi Higher-Education Teacher Training Center, the Steering Committee for Shanxi Higher-Education Foreign Language and Literature Teaching. The event is organized by College of Foreign Languages of TYUT and co-organized by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press and the Higher Education Press.

The seminar centered on the themes of transformation and development, innovation of foreign language education, and provision of talent support. The attendees include experts and heads from Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanxi Higher-Education Teacher Training Center, Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Group, Taiyuan Iron and Steel Group, Shanxi Investment Promotion Bureau, Japan Chaoyang Commercial Corporation, Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, Higher Education Press, and more than 180 people from more than 20 colleges and universities.
The meeting was chaired by Professor Liu Bing. Zhang Shulin, the executive deputy director of the Shanxi Higher-Education Teacher Training Center, Chang Xiaoling, deputy editor-in-chief of the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, and Yao Jiadi, director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Taiyuan Iron and Steel Group, respectively delivered speeches on behalf of the hosts and guests.

Wu Liang, Deputy Director of the Shanxi Investment Promotion Bureau, made a special report entitled "Assisting the Transformation and Development of Shanxi with Investment Promotion". Prof. Ren Hewei, deputy director of the National Research Center for Foreign Language Education of Beijing Foreign Studies University, gave an academic keynote report entitled “Foreign Language Research Capacity and Project Application" and an academic special report entitled "Research Essay Topic Selection and Research Design”.
The success of this seminar has played a positive role in promoting the reform and innovation of foreign language education in our province and improving the quality of talent cultivation. Apart from this, the seminar also boosted foreign language teaching research and discipline construction in TYUT, expanding the academic influence of the university and contributing to its “double first-class” development.
